The Dogs

The foundation of our breeding program is the 1997 European Coupe Champion, Homere du Mas du Diable. Call name Homere.
Grand Ciel Lodge is home to Chenil de Grand Ciel (Big Sky Kennel) and the American home to the Braque francais (French Pointer).

The French Pointer is becoming more well known, and for those people interested in an extremely versatile dual purpose dog that is equally well suited in the home as it is in the field, this breed in definately one you should evaluate. Its calm quiet disposition in the home belies a special breed of dog that transforms itself in the field to a dog with a medium range and endless energy.
A Braque francais is well proportioned dog of 40 -55 lbs. with a soft short haired coat. It was bred to hunt the very rugged arid Pyreness Mountain range on the boarder of France and Spain. The breed dates back hundreds of years and is considered the common ancestor to all of todays short haired pointing breeds. The Braque has a natural retrieve instinct and loves water. I have yet to see one with a hard mouth. A truly versatile breed that is calm and quiet in the duck blind or boat. Due to its intellegence and willingness to please, the French consider it "born trained."
Homere's son Savanne Chassuer de Grand Ciel. Call name Savvy. The apple didn't fall far from the tree!

Sinjin is a fox-red British Lab. Even though he was only born in Feb. 2004, he was absolutely lethal on wild pheasants during his first fall in the field.

Chenil de Grand Ciel is very happy to have added British Labs to our kennel. Like the Braque, a Brit Lab has a gentile easy going temperament in the home, and undergoes a transformation in the field that makes it another wonderful dual purpose dog.

Although our pointers can work in row crop, the Lab was bred to work within gun range and is better suited for row crop style hunting.

Dogs that bounce off walls might excell in the field trial game, but most people want dogs that are wonderful pets year round and hunt hard when they get a field. Both the Braque and the Brit Lab are very similar in this regard.

Chenil de Grand Ciel breeds Braque francais pups on a regular basis. If interested, please call or email for upcoming litter information. At this time, we are not breeding Brit Labs.
